RTS Electives are presentations that extend beyond the time and/or geographical constraints associated with the RTS123 and RTSM courses. These may include selected advanced studies, in-depth explorations of key topics, RTS preparatory studies, and/or RTSM adjunct presentations required before entering the RTSM Examination process.
Electives are scheduled, coordinated, and administered by the respective instructor. These electives are offered and available to people outside of the RTS program and its students. Although RTS recommends and in some case requires the subject matter as part of various certification level requirements, RTS is not responsible for the venues, exact curriculum, or exact content.
Although most instructors have their own website whereupon enrollment can be made directly, we have attempted to simplify the process of enrollment in electives for the RTS student by making it available online through the RTS website. However, each elective remains the responsibility of the instructor. Elective registration fees go to the instructor/s.
Mastery Electives are advanced experiences designed to further the education and thought processes at the mastery level. They are presented by Tom Purvis and/or guest experts in specific advanced topics. Registration is limited to those who have completed all four mastery modules: RTSm Science, Spine/Trunk, LE, and UE. You do not have to be RTSm certified to attend. Space will be limited based upon the specific topic and venue.

| This 12 hour course provides a mechanical foundation for health, fitness and rehabilitation specialists by examining anatomy from an engineering and architectural perspective instead of just the "names and geography" that school typically offers. - Experience the musculoskeletal system in 3-Dimensions, while examining the mechanical ability of all tissues involved in motion. - Examine the structure as influenced by force and how this affects force tolerance and examine the muscles via the lines of force they offer to a joint and to a kinetic chain. - Explore function outside of anatomical position by examining muscular action with respect to axes of motion and attachment sites. - Discover what traditional kinesiology class missed! | Anatomy and Architecture: Dissection of the Myofascial Skeletal System Students will spend 3 to 3.5 days in the lab performing dissection! No other course offers a more applicable approach to the muscular, skeletal and fascial systems to trainers and therapists. This hands-on course allows you to see actual tissue interdigitation so you can better see the force production relationships between tissues and start making better decisions about force application. | FNS was created by Jacques Henri Taylor. It has evolved into a two-part series: - FNS1: Principles of Human Motion is presented by Jacques. - FNS2: Mindful Motion is a collaboration with Kevin Dunn who also co-presents. FNS is a Resistance Training Specialist Mastery Course and a continuing education for Greg Roskopf’s Muscle Activation Techniques. From Yoga to Kettle Bells, Muscle Activation Techniques to Reflexology, Pilates to free weight workouts, we will explore how the physics of this spectrum of modalities affect the continuum of tissues and systems of the body. In other words, how do our tools work? How do they create the salubrious affects that we observe? Based on this foundation, we can objectively rethink how and when to skillfully use our tools to do even greater good. New strategies for increasing ROM, strength, and longevity will emerge from our exploration. All Fitness, Healthcare, and Medical professionals are welcome. | Our focus in this module will be on understanding the relationship between physical forces (both internal and external), the body and the brain. Physical activity shapes the body by stimulating the tissues to adapt. It turns out that physical activity literally shapes your brain, as well. The crux of the matter is that the brain adapts specifically to how the activity is done! These adaptations then initiate specific hormone cascades that affect behavior, mood, immune function, endocrine activity, etc., which in turn affect the physical response of your musculoskeletal system! In other words, just doing it (even with proper form) in not enough to guarantee favorable results. The plasticity of our brains gives us the opportunity to rewire ourselves through motion - for better or for worse. We will trace the paths and affects of force from outside the body, through the connective/contractile tissue continuum, through the peripheral nervous system, to the brain. We’ll explore mechano-transduction and the processes that lead to the structural adaptations that we recognize as the fruition of our exercise/therapy/adjustment. We’ll take a look at the brain's response to force and all of the systems that are affected. We'll explore the elements of and develop salutary, favorably mind-altering activities and exercises. Course Fee: $600 before June 10, 2011; $640 thereafter Dates: 2012 tba Times: 8:30am to 5:30pm on Friday and Saturday, and 8:30am to 12:30pm on Sunday. Location: tba For more information go to www.myotopia.com |

| No matter what the technique or modality, the physical nervous system is affected by motion. Only a thorough understanding of the anatomy and mechanical properties of these tissues allows practitioners to predict whether these affects are beneficial or detrimental. Something as seemingly simple as the position of the ankle joint during a seated leg curl, the position of the spine while lying supine, or the grip chosen for performing a range of motion test all cause significant mechanical changes in the physical nervous system. The over-arching goal of this portion of FNS is to expose participants to the various roles the nervous system plays as a malleable mechanical tissue. With ample amounts of both practical application and lecture, participants will be exposed to key concepts for successfully interacting with the physical nervous system. In addition, we will focus on understanding the malleable connection between the mind and the body. We will discuss the question, "What is the mind?" and why it matters. Let's explore the factors that will allow us to auspiciously rewire the brain through motion. In this section, we will apply and experience all of the information that was conveyed in FNS1. We will experience how the mind affects the outcome of what we do and how we can use the body to affect the mind. Then we'll create an endless library of salubrious and propitiously mind-altering exercises and activities. For more information go to www.myotopia.com |

| These seminars and workshops are designed to introduce you to RTS principles and thought processes. These presentations vary in length and depth of information as determined by a variety of local and logistical factors. Most international presentations that require translation are not coordinated or administered through RTS Headquarters. This is designed as a precursor to RTS123 or RTSM courses. Canada and Mexico are currently the only sites for RTS123 courses outside of the US. Canadian courses can be viewed RTS123 schedule. Mexican RTS123 courses are only offered through Sport City locations. Presenter: Mark Slavin, DC |
