RTS Electives are presentations that extend beyond the time and/or geographical constraints associated with the RTS and RTSM courses.
These may include selected advanced studies, in-depth explorations of key topics, RTS preparatory studies, and RTSM adjunct presentations required before entering the RTSM Examination process.
Check the RTS schedule frequently for these events and the specifics!
| This course provides a mechanical foundation for health, fitness and rehabilitation specialists. Experience the musculoskeletal system in 3-Dimensions, while examining the mechanical ability of all tissues involved in motion. Explore function outside of anatomical position by examining muscular participation with respect to axes of motion and attachment sites. Discover what traditional Kinesiology class missed! Day 1 8:15 Registration 8:30 Body orientation 9:30 Anatomical communication 10:30 Structural anatomy perspectives 11:30 Foundations of mechanics 12:30 Lunch on your own 1:30 Cadaver anatomy in lab 5:30 Conclusion of day 1 Day 2 8:15 Sign-in 8:30 Structure based function & muscle mechanics perspectives 12:30 Conclusion of course Price: $299 for all 12 hours; or $149 for 4 hour Cadaver Lab only Site: Bio-Dynamix, 5520 Park Ave., Trumbull, CT 06611 Local Phone: 203.225.0772 Register ONLINE at: www.bdxeducation.com/mechanix.html |

| Dear Colleague, I trust that you are well. I am bursting with enthusiasm to share the revised Force and the Nervous System with you. Along with prior course feedback, many sleepless nights gave me time to cerebrate, research, and develop practical applications all of which have prompted me to expand this seminar to 3 days. In addition to considerable revisions and rejuvenation of the previously presented topics, here are some of the new topics that I will cover: More reasons why NOT to "Just do it" 1.) Repetitive physical activity literally shapes the brain. Many, if not all, of the benefits that we associate with physical activity depend on how the brain adapts. These brain adaptations then initiate specific hormone cascades that affect behavior, mood, immune function, endocrine function, etc. We'll explore these hormone cascades and their affects. But here's the crux of the matter: The brain adapts specifically to how the physical activity is done! In other words, just doing it (even with proper form) is not enough to guarantee the results that we want. The mind must be strategically and concomitantly trained. Let's explore the factors that will allow us to auspiciously rewire the brain through motion. Then we'll create an endless library of salutary and propitiously mind-altering exercises and activities. 2.) Stretching: Passive, Active, or otherwise. Health, fitness, and performance enhancement professionals have used a variety of stretching techniques. Each technique has been touted as beneficial and each has been slammed as errant or ineffective. In this continuation of the RTSM discussion on "resetting", let's explore the mechanisms of action for these techniques. Let's get familiar with the conditions and goals that favor each stretching modality. We'll apply physics, fluid mechanics, neurophysiology, and immunology to understand how to optimize the use of these tools. With this information, let's modernize our range of motion accommodation strategies. 3.) Learn what happens to nerves as we move through range of motion. Do nerves stretch? What are elastic and plastic properties of nerves? What if the nervous system is not as mobile as the muscles and the joints they control? 4.) The truth about Reciprocal Inhibition (RI) - Is it as simple as the traditional agonist/antagonist relationship? For range of motion deficits, is RI the chicken or the egg, i.e., what are the vast and varying causes of ROM deficits? 5.) Training the nervous system - With any exercise or therapeutic modality the nervous system is obviously involved. In this new section, we will explore how to take advantage of the nervous system's design. For example, all isometrics are NOT the same. No, I do not mean from a purely mechanical perspective. The choice of resistance is key! Your nervous system can have a dramatically different response to different types of resistance. The logistics: Dates: February 29, March 1st and 2nd, 2008. Times: 8:45am to 6pm on Friday and Saturday, and 8:30am to 3pm on Sunday. Location: Manhattan Beach Marriott Hotel, 1400 Parkview Avenue, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266-3714 Lodging Info: We have a group rate at this hotel of $124 per night. This is a pretty rate (much better that what you will find online). Call 1 (800) 228-9290 or (310) 546-7511 and ask for the Rewire Project group rate. Airport Info: LAX is the closest airport (3 miles north). A cab costs $15. Super Shuttle is another option. Course Fee: $399. To register for this course, you must pay in full by February 20th.
